Many Hats
Many hats. I have worn oh so many hats. Life is just not linear, is it? We often ask our children to make the big decision of their career choice. As a teacher I have seen how overwhelming this can be especially because often at a young age we think it is a final decision rather than a stepping off point on our journey into our life. I know very few people who remain in the actual profession they trained for. Today I am working artist and gardener/herbalist, and am so happy for it but I have had a full career in education, the food & nutrition industry, photography; having held many jobs in all of these. I have worn many hats and loved each and every step along the way.
My first passion was always working with my hands, and honestly, I did not want to go to college per se, rather art school. There is something so powerful that resonated with me in the process of creating and working with my hands which I have done my entire life. The connection between our brains and our hands is amazing. A flow that can happen with whatever streams through your consciousness and what lands on paper, or takes shape three dimensionally. The imagination, or what I like to call the imaginal space, makes magic happen right before your very eyes! An intelligence exists that so many people fear or do not trust, and I believe that perhaps we as a culture offer messages to our developing selves that shapes this fear. The deeper trust to let go and allow whatever emerges to come through takes time-but it is a skill we can build. Our creativity is an abundant well that is within each of us. It is innate and it is your innate right to create.
Cross-culturally women have gathered and created for an eternity. So much beauty in the community built around creating together, even in a solo activity. It is vast and rich to explore color, play with texture, make our marks, and discover something new. Such inspiration. It is downright fun! What is better that playing and exploring within your community and circle of women?
